How to Get Rid of Pink Eye Fast

#Best Eye Hospital in Bhopal

Conjunctivitis (also known as pink eye) occurs when the thin, clear overcoat of the white area of the eye and inside the eyelids (conjunctiva) become inflamed.

Early signs of conjunctivitis include itchy and irritated eyes. The eyes will also slowly turn from a light veiny pink, to a more angry red with more pronounced veins. Although it may look a little scary, generally speaking, conjunctivitis is not painful. It is the appearance of red eye that tends to distress most people and reason embarrassment. However, it can be cleared very quickly if treated immediately and the right precautions are taken. In most cases, conjunctivitis is either caused by an allergy (allergic conjunctivitis) bacteria (bacterial conjunctivitis) or virus (viral conjunctivitis).

You wake up in the morning and open your eyes, at least you try to. One eye seems to be stuck shut, and the other feels like it’s rubbing against sandpaper. You’ve got pink eye. But you also have a life and need to feel better fast.

First step: Is it bacterial?

To help you treat your pink eye the fastest, it’s essential to make your best guess as to what type you have. There are four common reasons of pink eye:

  1. ·         viral
  2. ·         bacterial
  3. ·         allergic
  4. ·         irritant

Viral is the most common, followed by bacterial. Viral basically means you have a cold in your eye — in fact, you’ll often have it along with a cold or upper respiratory infection.

Bacterial pink eye often occurs along with an ear or strep infection. It generally causes a lot more mucus and irritation than other pink eye causes.

Second step: Soothe your eye(s)

If you have pink eye in only one eye, your goal is to treat the affected eye without infecting the other eye. If your other eye gets infected, that will extend the length of the illness.

·         Steps you can take to help your eye feel better include:

·         Place a warm, damp washcloth over your affected eye. Leave it on for a few minutes. This should help to loosen any stuck-on gunk from your eye so it can open more easily.

·         Wash your hands and use a new damp washcloth on the other eye if both of your eyes are affected.

·         Apply lubricating eye drops, usually labeled “artificial tears,” to each eye. Don’t let the tip of the eye dropper touch your eye. If you do, throw it away because it’s contaminated.

·         Wash your hands after applying eye drops.

What to do if you get conjunctivitis?

Conjunctivitis is simply treated and in the majority of cases will not develop into anything more severe. The most common treatment for conjunctivitis are medicated antibiotic eye drops. Minor conjunctivitis can sometimes clear by itself.

How long does pink eye last?

Conjunctivitis can last for a few days up until a month depending on what type it is. Viral conjunctivitis is highly contagious but should clear up within a few days to two weeks. Bacterial conjunctivitis however, can last up until a month even with the treatment of antibiotic eye drops.
